Take me out to the ballgame...

This Saturday my family and I went to a San Francisco Giants game (I am a huge fan) and it was "Turn Back the Century" day. Both teams (the Giants and the Chicago Cubs) were wearing throwback uniforms from 100 years ago. It was so cool to be rooting for the New York Giants (as we didn't move to San Francisco until 1958) and seeing them in their white and navy uniforms instead of the orange and black.

The jumbotron was all in flickering black and white. In between innings, they showed old photographs and hundred year old advertisments while a man with a megaphone gave announcements and adverts of the day that still hold true today - like an add for AT&T (or as he called it: American Telephone & Telegraph). It was great.

 Talking about Houdini's latest escape.

Even the grounds crew was dressed for the occassion! :)

A great day. Barbershop quartets, trumpet players, 5 cent peanuts - seriously! They were 5 cents! A great day at the yard. And we won.

Tiny Top Hat

I. Am. Back..... Again. A lot of life changes and I'm getting back to my creative roots. I want to be creative again!!! I am going to try my hardest to post something every Friday. Fridays are good. And I think I can commit to once a week, don't you?

Tomorrow I am off to go shopping at a vintage shop in San Jose, CA with my mom and aunt. I have been waiting to do this for a very long time. I am super excited. I will tell you guys all about it. :)

This week I have a video for you. I made this really cute miniature top hat to go with my 1952 Butterick dress for one of my best friend's bridal shower. I was the maid of honor and so I had the privilege of throwing her shower - a mad tea party theme. It was a lot of fun. Enjoy!

At Last...

I have finally finished my circle skirt from Casey's Circle Skirt Sew Along. I finished it a while ago but the bottom was all wonky - portions up to 4 inches longer than the rest of the skirt. When I got my dress form for Christmas, I realized I could hem my skirt straight because the dress form has a hem marker! My new best friend. :) So on Sunday I FINALLY got to wear my circle skirt. Here are the pictures. :)

1952 Butterick Dress... Finally!

So it's been about six months but alas, here it is!

The original pattern:
The finished dress:
My friend made the fascinator custom to match! It's awesome. I love this dress and I definitely didn't look like anyone else at the wedding. :) Good times.
I will get better pictures at some point this spring.

Soooo, I've been gone for a while....

I realize that I haven't posted since September. Wow. Second jobs, holidays, blah, blah, blah. Well, I'm gonna jump right back into it.

So, without further ado:

Last week I tried a 1940s hairdo and after a verrrryy looooong time trying to get it right, and help from my mother,  we got it.

Circle Skirt Sew Along Progress

So, today I finally got started on my circle skirt for Casey's Circle Skirt Sew Along. I had another project I had to finish up first. Today I drafted my pattern, which was easier than I thought it would be, and cut out my fabric. I was really excited to do this sew along because, while it is a pretty simple pattern, it was the first pattern I would be drafting myself.

I am super excited to finish this skirt. I got just the kind of fabric I wanted - a novelty print, and it's notical, which I love! The background is navy though it looks a little black in this picture.

Are any of you participating in this sew along? How far along are you?

A Little Hair

So, I meant to share this last Tuesday but I got violently ill and just didn't get around to it so... here we are. I just thought I'd share my hair from Tuesday of last week. I really like the way it came out. I had experimented with "bumper bangs" the day before and so this is what I did with my next day hair. :) Have a blessed day!
